Beyond The Trophy: Get to know Charleston Southern Chapter Leader and safety Hombre Kennedy
Each week during the college football season we will feature a player who is an officer for an Uplifting Athletes Chapter for our Beyond the Trophy series.
Get To Know Hombre Kennedy from Charleston Southern University: The super senior safety has played five seasons for the Buccaneers, logging 37 games, recording 120 tackles and three interceptions. Hombre was a 2021 All Big South Second Team selection and earlier this season recorded a career-high against Campbell. Two years ago Hombre started serving the rare disease community as a chapter leader, attended the Leadership Development Conference and Young Investigator Draft celebration earlier this year and played an instrumental role in helping the CSU Chapter hold a Lift For Life in the summer.
What is your most memorable experience as a college athlete?
KENNEDY: Playing the University of Georgia in our last game.
What drove you to get involved with Uplifting Athletes?
KENNEDY: Cooper Dawson joined our team and introduced Uplifting Athletes to me as a great opportunity to give back.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know?
KENNEDY: I was born with a heart murmur.
What is the one piece of advice you would give a high school player with aspirations to play college sports?
KENNEDY: What you get is based on what you put in. If you are not serious it will show and you will get exposed.
If you could play another sport, what would it be and why?
KENNEDY: Track. It is based solely on your individual performance. Your success comes from your work.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
KENNEDY: Deion Sanders. He changed the game in my opinion forever.
