Each week during the college football season we will feature a player who is an officer for an Uplifting Athletes Chapter for our Beyond the Trophy series.

Get To Know Quentin James from Davidson College: The cornerback from Virginia has appeared in 26 games for the Wildcats over the last four seasons, recording his first career interception against VMI in 2021. Quentin has 27 tackles and four pass break-ups as well. … He is a second generation NCAA Division I athlete after his father, Jurmell, played basketball at the University of Virginia. … Quentin, who was also an All-State basketball player in high school, volunteered to step into a leadership role and serve as a chapter leader following the 2021 season. He attended the Leadership Development Conference and Young Investigator Draft celebration in 2022 and played a key and instrumental role for the Davidson Chapter Lift For Life to support the rare disease community earlier this year.

What is your most memorable experience as a college athlete?

JAMES: Beating University of San Diego and ending their conference winning streak while clinching a conference title (our first one).

What drove you to get involved with Uplifting Athletes?

JAMES: I wanted to continue the chapter and to be a part of something that was bigger than myself through athletics.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know?

JAMES: I play the guitar, piano, bass guitar and saxophone.

What is the one piece of advice you would give a high school player with aspirations to play college sports?

JAMES: Prioritize your goals, be relentless in your work towards that goal and bet on yourself. Someone will find you and recruit you if you can play!

If you could play another sport, what would it be and why?

JAMES: Basketball. I’ve played it even longer than I’ve played football, and enjoy the sport just as much.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

JAMES: LeBron James because of the way that he plays the game as well as his contributions to society off the court to try and prevent people from living the life he did as a kid.
